**Responsibilities**
As a Research Engineer, you’ll create prototypes that push the boundaries of software development. This role involves taking novel technological concepts or user experiences and transforming them into working products. With few restrictions on solutions, the role requires balancing innovative ideas with practical execution.
You’ll engage with varied domains, requiring knowledge across multiple tech areas, and collaborate with a team of skilled peers to generate and refine ideas into tangible prototypes. This role requires a strong background in frontend development and design to tackle UX challenges in unexplored areas.
**Qualifications**
*Required Qualifications:*
– 9+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with expertise in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python, or
– An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in relevant fields with equivalent professional experience.
– Proven ability to develop prototypes to demonstrate concepts.
– Experience setting research objectives and independently driving toward solutions.
*Preferred Qualifications:*
– Deep industry knowledge and understanding of GitHub’s product landscape.
– Experience with frontend tech (e.g., Typescript, React, Svelte) and machine learning applications.
– Significant experience with backend systems, open-source projects, or high-scale production environments.
– Expertise in areas relevant to GitHub’s mission, like human-computer interaction or distributed systems.
**Compensation Range**
The salary range for this position is $118,100 – $313,300 annually, dependent on location and experience. GitHub also offers benefits, bonuses, and stock options based on individual impact and eligibility for certain roles.
