Responsibilities

The Senior Director, Labor Relations is responsible for defining and driving the overall labor strategy framework for Mayo Clinic. Partnering with key stakeholders to implement a comprehensive, system wide labor relations strategy. Responsible for working in concert with Legal, Government Relations and Executive leadership in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of labor relations strategies, programs and policies that support a consistent and strong labor relations program. Plays a lead role in supporting and advising regional leadership in the development of plans to address strategic labor relations goals.  Serves as resource for the regions and as a conduit for creating alignment, consistency and accountability in the management of labor issues. Identify emerging risks & trends, advise best practices to address risks, and strengthen the Labor Relations program.

The Senior Director – Human Resources, is responsible for enhancing the internal organizational strategic plan. Partners with leaders inside and outside of HR to develop and implement strategies in alignment with Mayo Clinic’s mission and the department’s strategic business goals and objectives. Works to orchestrate short-term and long-term planning, implementation and follow-up. Maintains a deep knowledge of departmental activities and strategic priorities. Partners with senior leaders to drive innovation and implement solutions to advance organizational priorities. Responsible for ensuring deliverables are met and outcomes achieved. Establishes and maintains strong customer relationships with both internal and external partners. The senior director helps to optimize operational performance. Serves as a key member of the HR leadership team with a primary focus on planning, execution, and maintenance of programs and policies. Creates followership with HR teams and interacts with management and senior leadership enterprise wide. Performs duties independently and initiates judgment in handling a variety of management issues. Responsible to lead and execute the vision for a department function. The senior director may also oversee multiple teams or manage a large program, site, strategic priority, or governing body committee function.

This position is 100% remote; can work from anywhere in the U.S. Infrequent travel may be required to Mayo Clinic campuses depending on business needs. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or other related subject. Seven years proven track record of strong performance, successful innovation, and leadership tenacity, as well as three years leading a team.  Must have strong references and demonstrated competencies in working with teams in a dynamic environment, embracing/leading change, and taking calculated risks. Experience must include demonstrated agility in thinking and delivering/execution of work and strategic priorities.

Master’s degree and relevant certification preferred.

Preferred expereince:

  • 15 years progressive labor relations experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a complex multi-unit environment
  • Demonstrated track record in positive labor relations, communications and public relations
