Substitute Teacher – Seasonal Role
**Team:** Child Development

**Location:** Reno, NV
**Age Groups Served:** Infants (0-2 years), Preschool (2-3.5 years), Pre-Kindergarten (3.5-5 years)
**Compensation:** $20.50/hour

At Patagonia, compensation aligns with market data to reflect fair pay at the specified location. This seasonal Substitute Teacher role supports our Child Development Center by stepping in for regular teachers in classrooms for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Schedules for this role vary based on need, and candidates must remain flexible for on-call shifts. This position requires caregiving responsibilities, implementation of age-appropriate curricula, and fostering relationships with children, families, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

**Classroom Management**
– Supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being.
– Cultivate relationships with parents, children, and coworkers that respect individual differences and cultural diversity.
– Support teaching teams in maintaining structured routines while adapting to children’s needs.
– Acquaint yourself with the daily operations, routines, and expectations of each classroom.

**Communication**
– Create an inclusive, nurturing environment for children, families, and staff.
– Collaborate with administration, Classroom Managers, and Teachers to maintain seamless operations.
– Use age-appropriate, respectful communication with children.
– Encourage children to become responsible and engaged community members.

**Physical Requirements**
– Respond promptly to children’s needs, including emergencies and conflicts.
– Engage actively with children by kneeling, sitting on the floor, or maintaining eye-level interaction.
– Administer first aid as necessary, which may involve handling bodily fluids.
– Lift up to 35 pounds or collaborate with team members to meet the children’s needs.

Qualifications

– A high school graduate passionate about early childhood education and Patagonia’s mission to protect the planet.
– Skilled in customer service and teamwork.
– Conscientious, proactive, and dedicated to continuous learning.
– Experienced in developmentally appropriate practices and committed to professional growth.

**Experience Required**
– Minimum two years working with young children (or 150+ hours in the last six months).
– Completion of 15 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units, including specific courses, with three additional units in infant/toddler care or school-age care, as applicable.
– Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools and team collaboration software.
– Successful fingerprint clearance and adherence to licensing requirements.

**Preferred Experience**
– AA or BA in ECE or related field.
– Knowledge of the R.I.E. approach, Outdoor Classroom philosophy, Anti-Bias Education, and other early childhood frameworks.
