Internship Opportunity
The Human Behavior Analytics (HBA) team, part of Waymo’s Safety division, advances research in road user behavior modeling, blending AI/ML and cognitive science. Their work supports Waymo’s commitment to safety and innovation, leveraging collaborations with internal teams like Systems Engineering and Simulation, as well as external academic partners. Waymo internships are impactful, providing opportunities for skill development and meaningful contributions to the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine features for an existing human behavior agent model used in autonomous vehicle (AV) benchmarking.
- Study relevant literature and existing model frameworks to enhance functionality.
- Integrate novel features into current model architecture.
- Evaluate model performance using human behavioral data.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, ML, Cognitive Science, or a related technical field.
- Proficiency in ML, generative AI, and programming languages like Python or C/C++.
- Knowledge of cognitive science, neuroscience, or human behavior modeling.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in simulated road user agent development for AV evaluation.
- Familiarity with analyzing human road user data.
- Understanding of the free energy principle and active inference.

Compensation
- Hourly Ph.D. Rate: $60.10
